Current ProjectsCentre for Immigrant Research
In partnership with community partners, academic institutions, industry experts, local governments, and ethnic and grassroots organizations, Centre for Immigrant Research strives to lead in research, evaluation, innovation and the development of new programs to better address immigrants’ needs and improve existing services and supports.

SettleSMART: Supporting Messaging and Assistance Resource Technology
SettleSMART offers an innovative, community-driven approach to transforming the delivery of settlement services in Canada. By combining cutting-edge digital tools with real-world insights from newcomers and service providers, the project aims to build equitable, scalable, and impactful solutions for the future of newcomer integration.

Tailored Attraction, Integration and Retention Strategies for Northern Ecosystem (TAIGA RISE)
TAIGA RISE is a pilot initiative funded by Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) through the Service Delivery Improvement (SDI) Stream. It responds to the urgent need to attract and retain immigrants and newcomers in small and rural communities across Northern Alberta and the Northwest Territories, where population decline, labor shortages, and economic stagnation are exacerbated by out-migration, aging populations, and declining birth rates. This project aims to build the capacity of communities in these regions to offer culturally responsive and community-led settlement support, while also strengthening their ability to communicate the social, economic, and environmental advantages of northern living. TAIGA RISE leverages an interdisciplinary, community-centric, and climate-aware approach to newcomer attraction, integration, and retention.
Environmental Scan and Systems Mapping
The Environmental Scan and Systems Mapping project is a research project that employs a qualitative approach to data collection for a systematic online scan of organizations' websites and yielded on service provider organizations
Innovative Approach
Our varied and innovative research approaches include participatory, arts-based and digital methods, in addition to surveys, interviews and focus groups locally and nationally, aiming to shed light and respond to the most pressing issues for settlement and integration.

Our Expertise
Practitioners and immigrants themselves are experts and producers of knowledge, rather than subjects or data sources for research. We employ experts on a variety of research and evaluation methods and work closely with our academic teams to synergize scholarly with community-based knowledges and expertise, in order to inform an innovative settlement service provision.
